Local Area

Only 6 miles from the pretty market town of Beauly, with its Cafes and gift shops, and 13 miles from the city of Inverness, a perfect base to explore the Highlands.

Tigh Mhor is situated just a few miles from the Great Glen walking path and is ideally located for a trip on the Caledonian Canal, cruising Loch Ness, climbing some Munros, cycling, sightseeing or just taking it easy in the Highlands.

Picturesque Strathglass is only a short drive away and provides access to some of the most beautiful Glens in Scotland including Glen Affric with its many Munros, perfect for the adventurous hill walker.

Inverness is the official start and finish point of the NC500, Scotland’s answer to Route 66. Tigh Mhor is only 13 miles from Inverness, making it ideally located for you to begin or end your journey.

No holiday in Scotland is complete without a visit to Loch Ness, just a 15 minute drive away. Over 20 miles long, a mile wide and 700 feet at its deepest, Loch Ness is the largest lake in Scotland by volume. The Loch Ness Visitor Centre is in the pretty village of Drumnadrochit and here you can find out all about our local legend – Nessie. Maybe you might see her on your drive!  In the village there are many gift shops and cafes.  There is also horse riding nearby.

An abundance of castles awaits the historian, with Urquhart Castle (5 minutes from Drumnadrochit), Cawdor Castle and  Brodie Castle being within a 40 minute drive.  Slightly further away, you can visit Eilean Donan Castle or even venture to the Isle of Skye where you will find Dunvegan Castle and Gardens.

You can combine history with nature and drive to beautiful Chanonry Point to see some of Scotland’s bottle nose dolphins feeding just off the shore. Or for those who want to get even closer to these majestic mammals, why not take a boat trip on the Moray Firth, see the dolphins and your surroundings from a different perspective.

There are an abundance of golf courses in the area, Muir of Ord being our nearest 18 hole course and Aigas, a challenging 9 hole parkland course in a spectacular setting, only a 20 minute drive away. Castle Stuart, a championship links course overlooking the Moray Firth, is close to Inverness and the Black Isle.

Whatever you decide to do, you can be guaranteed a warm welcome and a relaxing stay at Tigh Mhor.

We can store your bikes and dry your camping equipment. Nothing is too much trouble and we aim to make your stay as relaxing as possible.
